Support for the 2024 Rocamadour Festival

"Firma spes ut rupes", hope as firm as a rock. This is the motto of Rocamadour, which inspired the theme of the 2024 Festival of Sacred Music: Hope, the force that has sustained this medieval village through the centuries.

So it was an obvious choice to introduce the liturgical musical genre of the leçons de Ténèbres at the heart of this programme. At the end of the reign of Louis XIV, France was a land of piety, but also of Italianism in music, including religious music. Vocality and spirituality were artfully combined, testifying to the refinement of fine French singing practised as much in the salons and theatres as in places of worship.

The Fondation Etrillard has therefore supported the "Leçons de Ténèbres" concert at Saint-Sauveur Basilica on 20 August 2024. Florie Valiquette and Marie Lys, flagships of the young generation of sopranos, has brought the works of Marc-Antoine Charpentier and François Couperin back to life under the baton of Chloé de Guillebon, alongside the Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal de Versailles, partner of the Foundation in 2022 for the Echo & Narcisse concert.
