For its first collaboration with a German institution, the Etrillard Foundation is partnering with the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin as part of the exhibition ‘Portraits! Surprising Encounters, from Botticelli to Lempicka’.
Bringing together nearly 90 masterpieces from the 15th to the 20th century, this unique exhibition offers a fresh perspective on portraiture by comparing works from different eras and contexts. The juxtaposition of gazes, expressions and styles brings unexpected connections to light, reveals contrasts and invites visitors to reconsider what they thought they knew.
Beyond the artists’ fame, what emerges above all is an experience of the gaze: an invitation to observe differently, without imposing any interpretation or pre-established narrative. It is up to each visitor to let themselves be guided by the works, to draw their own connections and to continue their inner journey as the visit unfolds.
A unique immersion in the art of portraiture, to be discovered at the Gemäldegalerie from 16 October 2026 to 14 March 2027.
