This exhibition allows for the rediscovery of an artistic movement that helped structure 20th-century history, to which the Centre Pompidou is dedicating a first comprehensive overview in France.
The Foundation’s support was directed towards the production of the projection work ‘Retournements’ by Arno Gisinger, which is the subject of an immersive installation in the exhibition’s final room.
The Etrillard Foundation wanted the works of the German avant-garde, celebrated at the Kunsthalle Mannheim in 1925, and then labeled “degenerate art” by the very same museum from 1933 onwards, to be restored through the projection work “Retournements” in an immersive and contemporary approach.
It is this rediscovery of past works through new technologies that motivated the Etrillard Foundation’s support, as part of an effort to restore the history of these works.
