For its first edition, the jury of the Craft Competition elected Louis Monier, carpenter in seats, as winner for his creation entitled ‘Artémis’.
He was particularly inspired by the Bergère du débotté, the piece he was asked to reinterpret, seeing Georges Jacob as one of the indisputable masters of chair joinery. He designed his chair as a humble response, a ‘wink’ to the eighteenth-century joiner.
A resolutely contemporary and innovative project, while at the same time respectful of the past, ‘Artémis’ fits in perfectly with the manifesto of the Fondation Etrillard: to highlight the influence of our cultural heritage on the contemporary world.
Louis Monier now has six months to complete ‘Artémis’, which will be unveiled to the public for the first time in May 2025, and will become part of the Foundation's collection.

It is with passion, requirement and precision that Louis Monier, founder of the Atelier Monier, creates seats for the greatest names in decoration. In his historical workshop located in the heart of Paris, he practices the art of carpentry for seats. His know-how allows him to imagine and create seats with the most audacious lines and curves, which are now the signature of the workshop. The workshop varies between ultra-modern productions, creations inspired by the great masters of the XVIIIth century, and manufacturing for artists who are looking for exceptional know-how. Louis Monier has been awarded the title of “one of the Best Craftsmen in France” (Meilleurs Ouvriers de France) in 2019. He has created a real identity and a universe around the line and the curve, which he practices daily. This work of more than ten years has earned the workshop the prestigious “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” label in 2021.
